He and his wife, Laurie, are active in a therapy horseback riding program. In Citizen Mitten, Bill shares stories of his life with their four-legged pals, and some two-legged ones as well.
About East Wind
Bill and Laurie live at East Wind, their farm located 25 miles from St. Paul, in the beautiful St. Croix River valley on the Minnesota – Wisconsin border. Besides being home to their dogs and cats, East Wind is where, with the help of their wonderful herd of older therapy horses, and a great group of volunteers, they provide therapy riding for kids and adults with disabilities, via their affiliation with We Can Ride (WCR), a non-profit based in Minnetonka, Minn. Laurie leads this program at East Wind so capably.
Bill and Laurie’s cats are a mish-mash of strays, but their dogs for the last 21 years have been golden retrievers. Bill and Laurie support Hearing and Service Dogs of Minnesota (HSDM), and they sometimes get to care for one of HSDM’s service dogs when the need arises. The East Wind goldens always look forward to having company.
